to the parade

where sidewalks are thronged early with spectators

dressed in various summer attire in the colors of red, white, and blue

staking their claim for the best view

to cheer on the marchers passing the road in front of them

hear the local band play “Stars and Stripes”

watch them march to an exuberant drummer and the lead baton twirler

the flag billowing out in front

elaborate color guards maneuvering

dramatic adornments of bunting swagged on buildings and porches

the cannons sounding

free concerts in the park

patriotic music

patriotism everywhere
